"When a writer says, I am not interested in the destiny of my book, he is simply a liar." - Umberto Eco Hi, my name is Maegan and I'll be your server. |
Yes: when only one person is starving or has HIV it makes it more ridiculous that 99 people can’t get together to provide help.
Yes: cool design, bro.
No: everything else. While thought provoking (to those who have never thought about it) and interesting to look at, I found many of these dichotomies or simplifications a little insulting.
Mostly, thought, it’s the fact people “know” 10% of people are gay, or that people think in terms of “white” and “non-white” is already an issue. For me, when I see that a small percentage of people in the world are white, I can make the connection to other ideas (and charts) about those whites controlling so much wealthe and power; I can also make distinctions between being white, white and female, white and gay, white and homeless and other subtleties of power.
However, for many it will simply reinforce the way that we think about the world - us, them, simplicity, barnyard animals, and cute cartoons.
Swing and a miss: these charts.
Update: did I submit this? that’s what the notes said…hmmm…well I stand by it as an interesting artefact - it needs crticism though.
